About 200 people had to be evacuated out of the subway train, authorities said. While most escaped through windows of the train, one woman jumped into the Mystic River below.
The terrifying moment has been captured in many videos circulating on social media which show the front portion of the train going up in flames and thick black smoke billowing from the coaches.

Passengers recalled hearing loud thuds and seeing thick smoke during the journey.
“That’s when chaos happened,” Nick Andreucci, one of the passengers told The New York Times. He said one of the passengers tried to open the door of the train but it did not move. Then, they kicked a window open and everyone jumped out.
