The welcome accorded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is in Jakarta today to attend the 18th East Asia Summit and 20th ASEAN-India Summit has to be seen to be believed. Apart from the ceremonial welcome at Jakarta International Airport where he was received by I. Gusti Ayu Bintang Darmawati, Minister for Women Empowerment and Child Protection, the Indian diaspora and Indonesians turned out in large numbers to greet him.

Gathered at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Jakarta, the Indian community members chanted “Vande Mataram” and “Modi Modi” when he arrived there. Many were holding the Tricolour and several waved to him. Among the large number gathered there were many children who too welcomed the PM with warmth.
The PM interacted with some of the Indian community members, including the kids and posed for selfies with them.
Not just Indians but the Indonesians too welcomed the PM with great enthusiasm. A group of girls performed an Indonesian cultural dance. The performers were thrilled about welcoming Modi. They sang “Mere Ghar Ram Aaye” which deeply touched the people.

Apart from the Indian diaspora, a large group of Indonesian women holding placards with “We Love Bharat” and “Welcome PM Modi”, chanted “We love Modi” when the PM arrived at the hotel.
