A social media video verified by Reuters and BBC News appears to show Ukrainian forces shooting and killing a captured and badly wounded Russian soldier in an area west of Kyiv.

Three rounds were fired by an individual into the soldier, who is wearing one of the white armbands used by Russian forces. He is bleeding heavily, lying on a road beside a dead soldier, and appears to be breathing with difficulty. The man firing the shots is not seen in the camera.

"Look he's still alive, he's wheezing already … It's finished," says a voice before two rounds are fired. A third is fired after the soldier continues moving.

The video then shows two other dead soldiers on the road who also have white armbands. One of them has his hands tied behind his back and has been shot in the head. An abandoned Russian armoured vehicle is seen nearby.

BBC said the incident has been located to the main road outside the town of Dmytrivka to the west of Kyiv. The road links Dmytrivka to Irpin and Bucha where Russian soldiers have been accused of killing civilians.

Scenes shown in the video match the scenery on Google Street View of the area.

The video has also been reported by the New York Times. Ukraine's UNIAN news agency also published footage of the shooting's aftermath on March 30.

The Ukrainian forces in the video are Russian speaking with an accent that is common in parts of eastern Ukraine. Some of them shouted "Glory to Ukraine!" the Reuters report said.

At least one wore a blue armband used by the Ukrainian army, but their affiliation was not clear. One of them had a Ukrainian flag patch on his arm, but it was upside down.

The audio ends with a man saying: "Do not [expletive] come to our land."

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on Thursday that he was aware of the video and it would "definitely be investigated".
