Taliban leader glorifies as true Muslim, Mahmud Ghaznavi, who plundered Somnath temple 17 times

Anas Haqqani, younger brother of the Interior Minister of Afghanistan and supremo of terror group Haqqani network has all praises for Mahmud Ghaznavi, who had attacked the Somnath Temple in Gujrat many times. On Tuesday Anas Haqqani visited the tomb of Mahmud Ghaznavi in Ghazni in Afghanistan and hailed the one of the cruellest rulers and invaders of the history as a “renowned Muslim warrior & Mujahid of the10th century,” in his tweet. Anas said in his post that Ghaznavi “established a strong Muslim rule in the region from Ghazni & smashed the idol of Somnath. The shrines of these honours inspire us with freedom, pride & courage.”

Finally, the Taliban government has started showing its true colours. By glorifying the invader Ghaznavi by one of the powerful leaders, Anas Haqqani has shown what the future holds for the multi-ethnic society.

Anas Haqqani lauded the demolition of Somnath’s statue by Ghaznavi at a time when a Gurdwara in Kabul was ransacked by Haqqani militants on Tuesday.

Mahmud Ghaznavi was the first independent ruler of the Turkic dynasty of Ghaznavids, who ruled from 998 to 1030 AD. Ghaznavi was attracted by India’s enormous wealth and prosperity. He attacked the Somnath temple 17 times, and finally ransacked it in 1024 AD.

The chief deity of the temple is Lord Shiva. Ghaznavi specifically targeted Hindu temples, since they were the centres of wealth, economy and ideology for the Hindus. According to historians, Ghaznavi used his plundered wealth to finance his armies which included mercenaries to pledge “jihad” and laying out gardens, and building mosques and palaces.

The Somnath temple was attacked and demolished several times but it was also rebuilt every time by Hindu kings. The temple was last rebuilt at the behest of the country's first Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. At present, PM Narendra Modi is the Chairman of Shri Somnath Temple Trust.

There is no surprise, where the Taliban’s ideology comes from.

It is noteworthy that Anas Haqqani, a leader of the Haqqani network, part of the Afghan Taliban movement, was a part of the Taliban's negotiation team in its political office in Doha, Qatar.

There has been a massive outrage on social media after Anas Haqqani’s glorification of Ghaznavi.

The Taliban's interim government in Afghanistan includes more than 5 UN designated terrorists from one of their most feared factions – the Haqqani Network, a terror outfit sponsored by Pakistan’s ISI.

The Haqqani Network has always been staunchly anti-India. Last month, in an interview with WION, Anas Haqqani had criticised the Indian government and media, claiming that the people of Afghanistan "understand India is not a true friend."

“The people of Afghanistan do understand because of the negativity and India is not a true friend. The Islamic Emirates police are to be diplomatic with everyone. It would be better that they should give up negativity and take positive steps so that the people can live with peace and a better life.”
