Russia mum on the Australia, UK, US, (AUKUS) security alliance to counter China

Russia has so far declined to comment on the new security alliance among US, UK and Australia, which can target China and bolster the defences of Taiwan.

Australia will be at the frontline of the AUKUS alliance, which includes construction of eight nuclear powered submarines in Adelaide, based on US technology. Armed with Tomahawk missiles, these subs will be hard to detect by Beijing's missile arsenal, and will be able to strike the Chinese mainland.

Russia has said that it was refraining from commenting due to the scarcity of information about the goals and objectives of the alliance, but scrutinizes all the details, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Thursday.

"At first, it’s necessary to understand all the details of this alliance. Clearly, we are scrutinizing the information," Peskov said, as quoted by the Tass news agency.

"Before articulating our position, we need to understand the goals, objectives and means. At first, it’s necessary to answer these questions. We’ve got a little information so far," the Kremlin spokesman added.

The trio also intends to work together in the arena of cyberspace, Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Technologies.
