In a bid to contain the Coronavirus spread, Pakistan could impose 'complete lockdown' in major cities if the people do not co-operate and fail to follow Covid 19 protocol.

According to Pakistan based newspaper Dawn, Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar said that the coronavirus situation in the country had become "extremely serious” and the country’s oxygen supply capacity is now under stress.

But he also expressed hope that the extreme step will not have to be taken if the public co-operates.

"We are hopeful we will not have to take this ultimate step if the public shows cooperation and seriousness, and if the administration is able to play its part. Otherwise, we might not have a choice," Dawn quoted the minister as saying.

"Take care of yourself and your fellow Pakistanis. The situation needs to be taken seriously," he said, adding that the chief ministers of each province must set aside their political differences and sit down with their health authorities to find a solution, the newspaper said.
