Khalistani activist and nephew of Indira Gandhi’s killer nabbed in New Zealand for drug peddling

New Zealand Police have arrested Baltej Singh, nephew of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s killer Satwant Singh, on charges of drug peddling.

Police authorities in Auckland recently busted a drug racket, following a raid at a local property in Manukau. Substantial amounts of methamphetamine concealed in beer cans were recovered in the raid.

The subsequent investigation trail led to the arrest of Baltej Singh, who is a nephew of Satwant Singh. Satwant and fellow bodyguard Beant Singh had assassinated former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the aftermath of Operation Blue Star in October 1984.

Baltej Singh had often been hailed in the local Gurudwaras for being a relative of Satwant Singh.

Satwant Singh’s brother and his family had relocated to New Zealand in the 1980s and were running a small grocery shop in Auckland.

However, a sudden increase in their wealth was noticed in recent months. Baltej Singh’s father became the proprietor of a real estate firm named Ray White and even bought a house valued at more than Rs 100 crore.

Pertinently, Baltej Singh is known to be one the primary masterminds and fund-raiser for anti-India and pro-Khalistan demonstrations organised in New Zealand. He is currently imprisoned and undergoing trial on charges of drug peddling.

The incident once again underscores the criminal background and dubious motivations of pro-Khalistan demonstrators and the role of overseas support in attempts to tarnish the image of a rising New India.
