Khaleda Zia admitted to a hospital for a thorough check up after testing Covid positive

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who tested positive for Covid 19, has been admitted to a city hospital for a thorough check up. The 75-year-old Zia, who first tested Coronavirus positive on April 11, on undergoing a repeat test after two weeks, was found to be still carrying the virus.

According to Dhaka Tribune, the former prime minister of Bangladesh may have to stay at the hospital for maximum one or two days.

Zia’s personal medical team head Dr FM Siddiqui said that the BNP chief’s latest CT scan suggests that has “made a good recovery from Covid-19.”

Zia has not been able to undertake several medical tests for the last one year due to the pandemic.

Siddiqui said they could not conduct many regular tests of Khaleda for over a year due to the pandemic.

“She underwent some tests, including the CT scan, today but many other tests couldn’t be done yet as facilities for those aren’t available at the hospital at night. She’ll undergo many other tests on Thursday. As it’s troublesome for her to come to the hospital and return home repeatedly, we got her admitted to the hospital temporarily,” DT quoted the doctor as saying.

Last month, the Sheikh Hasina government approved the proposal of suspending Zia's prison sentences in two graft cases for six more months amid the outbreak of the pandemic.
