Indian Field ambulance’s heroism during Korean war to be showcased in rare exhibition

<strong>The  Korean Cultural Centre in India is set to applaud the heroism of the 60 Para Field Ambulance, marking the 71st Anniversary of the Korean War. Thirty two archived photographs will be exhibited showcasing the joint efforts of both the Indian and Korean troops in the line of fire.</strong></p>

The photo exhibition which will be online is titled "Korean War Special Exhibition – 60 Para Field Ambulance". It will commence from today that is Friday, June 25 at 5 p.m. and will go on till August 25. There will be a short consisting of the exhibition images, and a short message of remembrance to the troops.</p>

According to an official statement issued by the Korean Cultural Centre, the Korean War — the conflict between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea) and the People's Republic of Korea (South Korea) — broke out in June 1950. This event saw the loss of millions of lives on both sides. During this period of war, India supported the UN Security Council Resolutions and deployed a medical troop "60 Para Field Ambulance", who played an important role by providing medical support to those injured in the war.</p>

Interestingly, the troop totalled 627 and was the largest of the medical unit during the Korean War.</p>

This Indian troop included four combat surgeons, two anaesthesiologists and one dentist. Commanded by Lieutenant Colonel A.G. Rangaraj. The 60 Para Field Ambulance provided assistance to an estimated 2.2 lakh wounded during the war and performed 2,324 field surgeries.</p>

The troop was further divided into smaller support units like Daegu Station and Uijeongbu. Of the total number of 627 medical aid workers dispatched, 10 members of the unit were injured and two lost their lives.</p>

The Korean Cultural Centre India through this photo exhibition wants to express their gratitude and pay homage to the 60 Para Field Ambulance while also showcasing the joint efforts of the Indian and Korean troops. The contributions made by this medical troop played an important role in bringing peace and harmony to the Korean Peninsula.</p>

The 60 Para Field Ambulance and the Korean troops also played a key role in strengthening the relationship between the two countries.</p>

The statement also shared that this exhibition was initially planned for the 70th Anniversary of the Korean War, which had to be postponed due to the ongoing pandemic.</p>
