India-Japan partnership to play a defining role in future – Rajnath and Jaishankar tell Japanese PM

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar once again underlined the significance of the growing India-Japan partnership during their meeting with Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in Tokyo today.

The courtesy call followed the Second India-Japan 2+2 Foreign and Defence Ministerial Meeting held in the Japanese capital on Thursday.

“Delighted to meet Japan’s Prime Minister, Mr. Fumio Kishida in Tokyo. Extended my heartfelt condolences on the sad demise of Former Prime Minister, HE Shinzo Abe. India-Japan partnership will have a defining role to play in ensuring peace and stability in the region,” tweeted Singh after the meeting.

Jaishankar too highlighted the importance of closer coordination of policies and interests of India and Japan in the backdrop of a complicated global environment.

“Expressed confidence that the vision which he (Fumio Kishida) and PM Narendra Modi have articulated will be realised early,” tweeted the External Affairs Minister.

Along with their counterparts from Japan, the visiting Indian ministers had on Thursday discussed regional and international affairs, bilateral security and defence cooperation, and cooperation among like-minded countries, bearing in mind the possible future visit of PM Modi to Japan as part of annual mutual visits by leaders.

New Delhi also highlighted that India and Japan are two nations committed to promoting a rules-based order, ensuring respect for international law and norms, and safeguarding the global commons.
