India blocks Pakistan’s tit-for-tat move at UN Security Council meet

India has with the help of the US, UK and France succeeded in blocking Pakistan’s tit-for-tat attempt to list an Indian National as a United Nations-listed international terrorists.

Islamabad had moved a proposal with China’s backing to list Gobinda Patnaik Duggivalasa at the United Nations Security Council's 1267 committee, claiming he was involved in terror attacks in the country.

Countries that supported India’s stand are the UK, US, France, and Albania. Three of the counties are permanent member of the security council, while Albania is the President of the Council for this month.

Pakistan’s move supported by China was aimed to hit back at India’s proposal moved jointly with the US to get Abdul Rehman Makki, deputy chief of terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, designated as a global terrorist. China had voted in favour of Pakistan against the proposal which has been put on technical hold.

The new proposal against Indian national Duggivilasa was part of Pakistan’s gameplan that it had used in 2020 as well. At the time the same name was rejected by 5 members of the committee. Pakistan's attempt to list him again is seen as wasting the time of the United Nations Security Council.

Indian permanent to the UN, Mr T.S. Tirumurti, had at the time termed it as, "Pakistan's blatant attempt to politicise 1267 special procedure on terrorism by giving it a religious colour."
