Imran Khan clean bowled by SC over COVID-19

Pakistan's Supreme Court has slammed Prime Minister Imran Khan for its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A majority of the 5,478 coronavirus cases in Pakistan had, just like India, the Tableeghi Jamaat connection, the maximum being reported from its headquarters in Lahore's Raiwind.

Khan, already struggling in the fight against coronavirus, was caught on a wrong foot again today.

This time by the country's Supreme Court.

The highest court in Pakistan expressed total dissatisfaction over government's efforts to tackle the crisis and directed the government to remove Dr Zafar Mirza, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health.

Attorney General Khalid Jawed Khan pleaded before a five-judge Bench of the top court, headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed, saying that it will be "disastrous" to remove the Prime Minister's aide at this point. But the judges were in no mood to relent.

"The apex court noted that there is a lack of leadership that could maintain unity in the country. Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed also raised questions over the high numbers of advisors and special assistants in the cabinet. The CJP noted, without naming anyone, that allegedly corrupt individuals have been inducted in the Cabinet. The CJP noted that larger size of Cabinet means that PM doesn’t know anything," reported <em>The Express Tribune</em>, a leading Pakistan daily, on the proceedings in the court.

A big blow indeed for the Khan government as the top court questioned the capability of his ministers..
