Games Pakistan will play in Kashmir this summer

It seems that this is going to be a very busy summer for the Indian security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir this year.

With the number of terror attacks rising—even as both India and Pakistan face a mammoth challenge to protect their countrymen from Covid-19 pandemic—the region is witnessing a fresh surge in violence.

Five security personnel, including two senior Indian Army officers, were martyred in Handwara of Kupwara district last weekend. It was followed by another terrorist attack in the same district Monday, this time three soldiers of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) embracing death in line of duty.

In February, Dilbagh Singh, the Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP), had stated that the number of militants active in Kashmir has come down and only 200-250 militants are active in the valley now.

The real worry was handling the hundreds waiting to infiltrate from across the Line of Control or LOC.

Some, as the DGP said yesterday, have already managed to reach north Kashmir and establishing contact with the local militants.

"Anti-militancy operations will be further intensified. Yes, at times, we (the security forces) have to bear losses to maintain peace in the region," said Singh.

The launch pads operating in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK)—and even as far as Afghanistan as the latest reports have shockingly revealed—are operating full time as the snow melts on the mountain passes.

India knows it, the world knows it, heavy infiltration being an annual affair at this time of the year, but Pakistan is busy trying to fool everyone.

"India has been whipping up a frenzy over alleged infiltration from Pakistan, with its civil and military leaders both using the ‘launch pads’ mantra to justify LoC violations. In such a scenario, a fact-finding probe overseen by the UN can help clear the air, as bilateral efforts have up till now not yielded much," leading Pakistan daily Dawn wrote in an editorial yesterday.

It added: "Pakistan has done the right thing by approaching the UN to ask India to provide proof, if any, of its incessant propaganda about ‘terror launch pads’ on this country’s soil. After all, the UN already has a military observer group—UNMOGIP—to monitor the situation in the area, and it would not be too difficult for a neutral third party to evaluate the facts on the ground, should India be interested in determining the facts, that is."

India whipping up a frenzy?

A report in United Kingdom's Daily Express newspaper has revealed how Islamabad is planning to wage a 'proxy war' in response to last year's airstrikes on terror camps in Balakot.

Reporter Simon Osborne put before the world the leaked contents of the confidential internal publication of Pakistan Army, 'The Green Book 2020.'

"The book contains recommendations to take Pakistan's proxy war against India into the ‘non-kinetic domain’ like information or cyber or electronic warfare. The Pakistan Army has been advised to run propaganda using video clips and pictures about ‘brutalities of Indian oppressive forces’ in Kashmir to alter the perception about India, which it has built so painstakingly over the years. It also suggests bringing the US onside by warning Washington that Pakistan will shift its forces from its western borders, which can adversely affect peace in Afghanistan, if India continues its Kashmir policy," wrote Osborne. The revelations from the leaked report will, in the days to come, further expose the ulterior motives of the Pakistan Army and also the Imran Khan-led government..
