The day, celebrated at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, marks the founding of Bangladesh's army, navy and air force during the 1971 Liberation War.

The special guests and other dignitaries also paid homage to Bangladesh's 'Father of the Nation' Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the martyrs of the Liberation War.

Bangladesh is currently celebrating the 'golden jubilee' of its independence and the birth centenary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Bangladesh and India are also observing the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations and defence ties between the two countries.
Singh, in his speech, mentioned that under the leadership of Mujibur Rahman, the whole of Bangladesh came together and fought against the atrocities of the occupied forces.
