China, Pakistan and Turkey are snaring international organisations to set the global agenda—Canadian think tank

China, Pakistan and Turkey are systematically targeting international organisations to set the global agenda in their favour, says a Canada-based think tank.

The International Forum For Rights And Security (IFFRAS) is spotlighting that China has managed to gain control over several key organisations including the International Telecommunications Union

(ITU), the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), and the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).

IFFRAS notes that once China is at the helm of affairs in an international organisation, it immediately opens the doors for authoritarian regimes such as Turkey and Pakistan. Now the three have formed a trinity to propagate their self-interest with a view to acquiring prominence in global affairs, says IFFRAS.

Giving an example of how China is manipulating institutions, the think tank says that "… China, despite a pathetic human rights record has managed to get itself elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council for a three-year term. China has embedded its network so deeply into the organisational structures of various intergovernmental forums that it tacitly maneuvers their functioning, decision making and agenda setting to its own liking".

IFFRAS says that in the ITU, with China being in the leaders seat, "… a Chinese enterprise like the ill-famed Huawei becomes a key performer and starts influencing rules that suit its expansion".

Similarly, in the UNIDO, China has used the global platform to endorse its geo-economic ambitions in the form of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). In the aviation sector with both civilian and military implications, China ensured the exclusion of Taiwan in discussions related to air navigation and safety standards, says IFFRAS

Citing another example, the think tank says that China could pressurise "the World Health Organization (WHO) towards taking a sympathetic stand towards it despite widespread criticism about its handling of the pandemic, attempts at keeping its origin discreet and thwarting the fact finding team from doing a thorough study. From a position of power in the WHO, China remained unfazed".

With the rise of China, Pakistan and, lately, Turkey are also strengthening their economic and strategic relations with the communist regime. Both avowed Islamic nations also aspire to be seen and acknowledged as the leaders of the Muslim world.
