BJP and Bangladesh Awami League vow to work together for region’s development

Relations between India and Bangladesh have touched new heights during the tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Jagat Prakash Nadda told a visiting five-member Awami League delegation in New Delhi on Monday.

Awami League Presidium Member and Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzak is leading the delegation from Dhaka that also includes party Joint-General Secretary and Information and Broadcasting Minister Hassan Mahmood, party Organising Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi besides members of Bangladeshi Parliament Aroma Dutta and Marina Jahan.

Nadda assured the travelling MPs that BJP and Bangladesh’s oldest political party will continue to work together for the greatest interest of the region.

Both countries are set to hold general elections next year.

As they discussed a wide range of issues, including political stability in the region, Bangladesh’s economic development and curbing militancy, Nadda pointed that the longstanding land and maritime boundary dispute between the both countries was solved during the tenure of the current PMs.

“Had an engaging discussion with the delegates from the Bangladesh Awami League in Delhi today as part of our ‘Know BJP’ initiative. We discussed ways to enhance party-to-party interaction and shared with them our party’s functioning, vision, and contributions to India’s progress,” tweeted the BJP President after the meeting.

During the 90-minute interaction held at his residence, Nadda mentioned the historic as well emotional ties between the two nations right since the Bangladesh’s war of independence in 1971.

He hailed the ongoing economic development in Bangladesh and stated the tremendous success achieved in various socio-economic sectors has set an example for other countries in the region.

“Bangladesh Awami League and BJP have been enjoying very good relations and we both are solving so many outstanding issues in party and even at the governmental level through discussions in the past,” said Bangladesh’s I&B Minister Hasan Mahmood.

Shaban Mahmood, Press Minister at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi revealed that the visiting delegation also held a meeting with External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar and visited the BJP headquarters to meet party General Secretary Vinod Twade.
