Big deer in wildlife park finally freed of car tyre around its neck after two years

An elk (big deer with antlers) who spent two years wandering around a park in Colorado with a car tyre around its neck has finally found relief with US wildlife officials managing to free it off the cumbersome burden.

Officers had to eventually tranquillise the bull elk and cut off its antlers, after they were unable to cut through the steel lining of the tyre when they tried to remove it.

Scott Murdoch of Colorado Parks and Wildlife told BBC's Maryam Moshiri of how it was easier to track down the animal in the mating season which is in Sept-Oct and then tranquilize it. He said that the antlers would grow back.

It is not known how the elk got into such an awkward situation. One of the possibilities is that it could have happened when a visitor to the park may have offered it food in the tyre, the park official told BBC.
