India and Bangladesh will hold the 7th Meeting of the Joint Consultative Commission (JCC) in New Delhi on Sunday. The JCC will be co-chaired by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and A K Abdul Momen, the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh.

This will be the first physical JCC meeting convened since the onset of Covid-19 pandemic, with the previous edition held virtually in 2020.

According to the External Affairs ministry, the JCC will review the entire gamut of bilateral relations, including cooperation in the wake of Covid-19, border management and security, trade and investment, connectivity, energy, water resources, development partnership and regional and multilateral issues.

After the meeting, Momen is also scheduled to call on Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in continuation of her “mango diplomacy” has sent one metric tonne of Amrapali mangoes to President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a goodwill gesture just ahead of the consultative meeting between the two friendly neighbouring countries.

A statement released by the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi said: "The mangoes were sent to the residents of His Excellency President and Honourable Prime Minister of India through diplomatic channels today.”

Incidentally, a consignment of mangoes as a gift from Hasina is also being sent to the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. This is likely to reach Kolkata next week.

The statement also highlighted that the diplomatic relationship between India and Bangladesh had reached new heights and the "Mango & Hilsa diplomacy" was making the ties more gratifying.

Last year, Hasina had sent mangoes generally grown in Rangpur as a gift to PM Modi and the Chief Ministers of West Bengal, Tripura and Assam.
