Argentina thanks PM Modi and Indian fans for sharing joy with Messi’s World Cup-winning team

Argentina President Alberto Fernandez has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and “all the people of India” for congratulating Lionel Messi’s team on winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup final against France in Qatar on Sunday.

“Thank you @NarendraModi and all the people of India for sharing this joy with us!” tweeted Fernandez while responding to PM Modi’s congratulatory message.


Earlier today, PM Modi congratulated Argentina on becoming FIFA World Cup Champions and also lauded France for a spirited performance in the nailbiting final.

“This will be remembered as one of the most thrilling Football matches! Congrats to Argentina on becoming #FIFAWorldCup    Champions! They’ve played brilliantly through the tournament. Millions of Indian fans of Argentina and Messi rejoice in the magnificent victory! @alferdez”, tweeted Prime Minister.


“Congratulations to France for a spirited performance at the #FIFAWorldCup! They also delighted Football fans with their skill and sportsmanship on the way to the finals. @EmmanuelMacron”, he added.

Several world leaders also congratulated Argentina and Fernandez on the victory at the World Cup in Qatar.

Russian President Vladimir Putin dialled Fernández, whom he warmly congratulated on the victory of the Argentine team in the World Cup in Qatar 2022.


“Vladimir Putin has just had a telephone conversation with Argentine President Fernandez and warmly congratulated him on Argentina’s World Cup victory,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who was amongst the several global leaders and top officials, who watched the game in Qatar, also tweeted on Argentina’s historic triumph.

“A tough loss for Les Bleus, but the world couldn’t have asked for a better, harder-fought match in what was truly a beautiful game. My congratulations to Argentina and to Lionel Messi for the crowning achievement. I’m already looking forward to cheering on the home team in 2026,” tweeted Blinken.
