Amidst Kabul airport chaos, Afghanistan’s biggest airline parks its planes in Iran

Afghanistan’s fighter pilots have flown their birds to Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Many Afghan soldiers have driven their US-built military jeeps and trucks to Iran.</p>

The latest to join this flight out of the war-torn country is Afghanistan's first commercial airline, <a href="https://www.kamair.com/">Kam Air</a>, which has flown some of its plans to Iran for safety.<br />

With the Taliban now ruling the country and the Hamid Karzai International Airport (HKIA) in chaos, the private sector Afghan airline has parked its planes at various Iranian airports. <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/dominicdudley/2021/08/26/afghan-airline-seeks-refuge-in-iran-for-its-planes/?sh=2843dafb9f6b"><em>Forbes </em>reported that </a>the Iran Civil Aviation Organisation confirmed to the Iranian media that Iran granted permission to Kam Airlines upon a request from the company.<br />

CAO spokesperson Mohammad Hassan Zibakhsh said: “Iran has also issued a landing permit for these planes in line with international cooperation standards with neighbouring countries”, adding that the planes flew with no passengers.<br />

Iran has not disclosed how many planes have been parked in the country.<br />

The airline is located at the HKIA, which is engulfed in chaos after the Taliban took over Kabul on August 15. Afghanistan's biggest airline, it flew within the country as well as international destinations that included Turkey, India, the Gulf countries and central Asia.<br />
<br />
It was founded by one of Afghanistan's biggest businessmen Zamaray Kamgar and ferried around one million passengers every year.</p>
