50 kg heroin seized in Delhi as NCB busts India-Afghanistan drug syndicate with Pakistan link

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has busted a major India-Afghanistan drug syndicate with a Pakistan link and recovered 50 kilograms of heroin worth around Rs 350 crore from a residential flat in Delhi's Jamia Nagar colony.

While one person has been arrested, a hunt is on for six others including some Afghan nationals who are members of the global drug syndicate.

NCB Deputy Director General (operations) Sanjay Kumar Singh said, "This is one of the biggest narcotics seizures in Delhi, that too from a residential area, in the recent past.”

Along with the contraband, Rs 30 lakh of cash and 47 kilograms of some other narcotics substance and currency note counting machines were also recovered from the premises that were being run under the guise of a printing press.

The NCB Deputy Director General further said that the drugs were kept in backpacks and jute bags and were wrapped in packets of e-commerce companies.

The investigation so far has revealed that an India-Afghan syndicate based in Delhi has links in the National Capital Region and neighbouring states.

He said these syndicates have expertise in manufacturing and adulterating heroin locally.

Investigations have revealed that the kingpin of the syndicate is based in Dubai and the agency is probing the case further, including certain links with Pakistan-based narcotics operatives.

Officials said that the seized heroin originated from Afghanistan and the cash found is suspected to have been channelled through hawala.

The NCB further said that the India-Afghanistan syndicates smuggle goods to India through maritime as well as land-border routes and heroin is smuggled after concealing it in consignments of goods such as textiles and spices.
