An 11-year-old boy miraculously survived a massive landslide in the Philippines by taking shelter in a refrigerator for a whole day. According to the New York Post, the boy, named CJ Jasme, had been at home with his family when tropical storm Megi triggered a mud landslide that buried their house in Baybay City on Friday.

A rescue team found Jasme lying inside the broken refrigerator as they conducted a rescue operation in the wake of tropical storm Megi.

The boy had jumped into the refrigerator at his home when he saw the landslide approaching and then spent 20 hours inside the appliance to shelter himself from the storm.

The rescue team finally spotted the refrigerator on a riverbank.

According to the Post, police officer Jonas Etis informed that the rescue crew then evacuated Jasme. They hoisted the broken appliance out of the mud like a coffin and then transferred the 11-year-old into a makeshift stretcher. The team said that the first words the child spoke to them were, “I'm hungry”.

Jasme was conscious and suffered only a broken leg during the ordeal. However, his mother and younger sibling are still missing, while his father died in another landslide that hit his house a day before.
