Panjshir Valley has always been a bastion against the Taliban since the 90s. Even the Soviets could not capture it and once Taliban 1.0 ruled Afghanistan, could not budge the Northern Alliance. The renewed Northern Alliance, known as 'The Resistance Group', under the leadership of Ahmed Massoud, son of Ahmed Shah Massoud, and 'caretaker President' Amrullah Saleh are resisting the Taliban again.
