US has sanctioned additional 24 Chinese and Hong Kong officials over Beijing's crackdown in Hong Kong. What pushed the sanctions more is the overhauling of Hong Kong's electoral system. With the new changes, the Pro-Beijing committee will have the power to appoint more of Hong Kong's lawmakers, reducing the proportion of directly elected leaders. Sanctions announced on Tuesday in Washington were introduced under the Hong Kong Autonomy Act.
