Unsung Sikh patriot Sewa Singh Thikriwala was a real hero who fought against the British forces. He was sent to jail multiple times but never stopped fighting for his people. Born in Thikrivala, a small village in the Sangrur district of Punjab in August 1882, he completed his schooling in Patiala and learnt Persian, Urdu, Hindi and other languages. He was one of the founders of the Praja Mandal movement. He also served as the vice president of Shiromani Akali dal and led several agitations. He died on 20 January 1935 in jail while holding a hunger strike against ill-treatment. In Thikriwala, every year villagers commemorate his death anniversary on 20 January.
