The UK has been one of the biggest donors to Covax to ensure global access to vaccines and continued to encourage manufacturers to provide their vaccines on a not-for-profit, transparent basis; yet, Her Majesty's government is opposed to a joint proposal by India and South Africa in the WTO, to temporarily relax the rules on IP and patents, which will allow developing countries to access vaccine production knowledge and boost their own capabilities. Are big pharmacy companies behind this? After all, their profitability and exclusivity will get affected, whereas India and South Africa's proposal is focused more on people than profit. UK lawmakers, in a cross-party move, are now demanding release of messages between the Johnson govt and big pharma for their move against India in WTO.</p>
