India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr S. Jaishankar during the Special ASEAN-India Foreign Ministers' Meeting (SAIFMM) said “ASEAN has always stood tall as a beacon of regionalism, multilateralism & globalisation”. The meeting provides a major boost to India-ASEAN Ties. The meeting assumes more importance as it comes at a time, when the region is tackling China’s belligerence & its increasing foothold in the region. But instead of adopting a confrontationist approach towards China, India pursues an inclusive approach to region based on the Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR) doctrine.
