Wipro suddenly slashes salary offers to freshers by close to 50%

Wipro’s move to slash the salary offer to fresh recruits waiting to join the company by almost 50 per cent under one programme has come as a shocker.

The Bengaluru-based software major has asked recently selected candidates at a salary package of Rs 6.5 lakh per annum whether a salary of Rs 3.5 lakh as annual compensation would be acceptable to them, instead.

IT sector employees union NITES has termed the IT major’s move as “unjust” and against the principles of fairness and transparency. It has the company to reconsider its decision and carry out a meaningful dialogue with the union to find a mutually beneficial solution.

Wipro has justified its move saying, “Like others in our industry we continue to assess global economies and customer needs which factor into our hiring plans.”

The company has stated that “in the light of the changing macro environment and, as a result, our business needs, we had to adjust our onboarding plans.”
