Social media giant Twitter has announced to label tweets spreading misleading information related to the covid-19 vaccination and permanent suspension of the accounts of the accused of repeating the tweets.

The micro-blogging platform has introduced a strike system to counter such misleading tweets and the account will be permanently suspended if five or more strikes occur on an account.

In a statement the company said that "We believe the strike system will help to educate the public on our policies and further reduce the spread of potentially harmful and misleading information on Twitter, particularly for repeated moderate and high-severity violations of our rules."

"Our goal is to eventually use both automated and human review to address content that violates our Covid-19 vaccine misinformation rules," Twitter said.

Twitter said that it has removed more than 8,400 tweets and challenged 11.5 million accounts worldwide after introducing the covid-19 guidance.

The strike will be label in such a manner that there will be no account-level action from the first strike, accounts will be locked for 12 hours by second strike; 3rd strikes will take another 12-hour lock; in fourth-strike 7-day account lock and five or more strikes will mean a permanent suspension of the account.

Twitter will first start with English-language content and will use the same process in references to other languages.

Labels will appear in the user's set display language and may link to curated content and official public health information or the Twitter Rules.
