With ChatGPT, an Artificial Intelligence chatbox developed by OpenAI, becoming popular among users, Elon Musk, the owner and CEO of Twitter has announced the launch of TruthGPT which will compete with Microsoft and Google’s products, perceived to be pursuing a Leftist agenda.
Musk in an interaction with Tucker Carlson of Fox News made it clear that the reason for the new platform is to counter ChatGPT which he said was “being trained to be politically correct and lie to people”. He went on to accuse OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT which is supported by Microsoft, of “training the AI to lie” and becoming a “closed source”, “for-profit” organisation.
Both Microsoft and Google have been accused of rigging algorithms that promote the Leftist agenda through their search engines and latest AI applications. Many in the US see both tech giants favouring the Democratic Party.
Musk said TruthGPT will have an AI that “understands the universe”. He added that an AI that aims at maximum truth and comprehends human civilisation was not likely to destroy humanity.
Charging Larry Page, the co-founder of Google of not being serious about AI safety he said: “I’m going to start something which I call ‘TruthGPT’, or a maximum truth-seeking AI that seeks to comprehend the nature of the universe.” Claiming that TruthGPT, “might be the best path to safety” he added that it was “unlikely to annihilate humans.”
Stressing on the need for AI regulation, Musk claimed that an extremely intelligent AI could write astonishingly effectively and possibly sway public opinion. On his Twitter he had mentioned that during his meeting with Barack Obama, the former US President he had advised that Washington needed to “encourage AI regulation” during his tenure.
Interestingly, OpenAI was co-founded by Musk in 2015. He quit the board of directors in 2018. Tweeting in 2019, he had said that he quit to concentrate on SpaceX and Twitter. He had added that “Tesla was competing for some of the same people as OpenAI & I didn’t agree with some of what OpenAI team wanted to do.”
