Is Twitter going to make users pay for blue check mark?

Twitter is considering a proposal to charge its users for the blue check mark verifying the identity of its account holder, according to a report in technology newsletter Platformer on Sunday.

Users would have to subscribe to Twitter Blue at $4.99 a month or lose their “verified” badges if the project moves forward, the report stated, citing two people who knew about the matter.

The new Twitter chief Elon Musk has not taken a final decision as yet and the move could be dropped, but according to Platformer it is likely that verification will become a part of Twitter Blue.

Twitter Blue was launched in June last year as the micro blogging site’s first subscription service which offers access to premium features such as allowing users to edit tweets.

The feature to edit tweets was also made available earlier this month after Musk came out in its favour following a Twitter poll in April asking his millions of followers whether they wanted an edit button. Over 70% had voted in favour of the feature.

Musk also wants logged out users visiting the Twitter site be redirected to the Explore page which shows trending tweets, The Verge reported.
