ChatGPT creator Sam Altman calls on PM Modi

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman called on the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday.

Replying to a tweet by Altman, the Prime Minister tweeted:

“Thank you for the insightful conversation Sam Altman. The potential of AI in enhancing India’s tech ecosystem is indeed vast and that too among the youth in particular. We welcome all collaborations that can accelerate our digital transformation for empowering our citizens.”

Altman, the CEO of the company behind advanced chatbot ChatGPT, after his meeting with PM Modi tweeted : had great conversation with @narendramodi discussing India’s incredible tech ecosystem and how the country can benefit from ai. really enjoyed all my meetings with people in the @PMOIndia.

Altman has won praise for admitting that there are pitfalls in the groundbreaking AI technology.   He has come out strongly in favour of government regulation to prevent misuse of artificial intelligence (AI).

Altman testified before a US Senate committee recently where he also highlighted the scope for misuse of the new technology.

In a matter of months, several AI models have entered the market.

Mr Altman said a new agency should be formed to license AI companies.

While ChatGPT and other similar AI programmes create human-like answers to questions they can also turn out to be very inaccurate.

“I think if this technology goes wrong, it can go quite wrong…we want to be vocal about that…We want to work with the government to prevent that from happening,” he said.

He also admitted that AI technology could replace some jobs, leading to layoffs in certain fields and the government would need to figure out how to tackle the fallout.

However, he is very optimistic about new jobs being created as well.
