Sourav Ganguly stable, doctors defer further angioplasty for now

Former India skipper and cricket board president Sourav Ganguly is stable stable and the angioplasty on the two other coronary blockages has been deferred for now as it has been deemed a safer option, Woodland Hospital CEO Rupali Basu said on Monday.

Basu said the nine-member medical panel formed to treat Ganguly, 48, following a heart attack on Saturday, met on Monday morning. Inputs were also taken on Zoom and on the phone from other experts including famous cardiac surgeon Devi Shetty.
“The discussion was also on the two other coronary blockages need to be treated by angioplasty in this admission vis a vis at an immediate later stage. The consensus of the board was that deferring the angioplasty is deemed to be a safer option and Mr Ganguly is stable without any chest pain and is on very optimal medical management, ”a statement issued by the hospital said.

“Treating doctors will be keeping a constant vigil on his health situation and taking appropriate measures daily at home once discharged,” it added.

After his diagnosis, the hospital had informed the media that the ex-cricketer had blockages in his three arteries. One of the blockages was treated successfully through angioplasty but the other two were left untouched. The panel brainstormed on the issue and came up with angioplasty as the best-possible means to rectify the blockages..
