In what can be described as a bold and prompt action on the part of doctors, a baby girl was delivered from a dead woman in Karnataka.
It all started according to a report in news18.com when 22-year-old Annapurna Abbigeri, who was pregnant, suffered epileptic seizures twice at home. Abbigeri who was from Karnataka’s Mushigeri village in Rona Taluk, Gadag district was rushed by her family to the local government hospital. The staff there directed the family to immediately take her to the district hospital for treatment.
While on the way to the Dandappa Manvi Hospital in an ambulance, the pregnant mother unfortunately died as her blood pressure dropped drastically. On arrival at the hospital, she was checked and to the amazement of the doctors, they detected heartbeats of the baby inside the womb.
Acting promptly and with a sense of urgency, the district hospital team of doctors who included Dr Vinod, Dr Jayaraj, Dr Keerthan and Dr Smriti, asked the family for their permission to operate on the woman. Following the procedure which lasted 15 minutes, a healthy baby girl was delivered.
The Administrative Officer of the hospital, Dr Basanagowda Karigowdara, talking to the media about the incident remarked: “This is a very rare feat. The team of doctors acted swiftly. When they noted the presence of FHS (foetal heart sound), they decided to take a risk and operate upon the lady. The family members were very understanding and gave their consent.”
Veeresh, the husband of the dead woman, was caught in conflicting emotions as he was heartbroken while also being relieved. “I pray that no one has to face a situation like this. We got married just a year ago and were just beginning our life together. Now she is gone like this. I will make sure our baby girl has an amazing life.”
