Indian lab better masks, sanitizers to fight Covid-19

National Research Development Corporation (NRDC), an enterprise under the Ministry of Science & Technology, has entered into an agreement with Paulmech Infrastructure Pvt Ltd, Kolkata, to transfer two Covid-19 control technologies developed by the S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences (SNBNCBS), Kolkata. The SNBNCBS is an autonomous research institute under the government.

According to an official press release, the two technologies developed by the SNBNCBS and transferred by NRDC are: an active respirator mask with attached exhalation valve and suspended particulate matter filter for comfortable and hygienic breathing; and long-lasting nano-sanitizer with a dispensing antimicrobial layer.

The active respirator mask is an innovative solution to the rebreathing of carbon dioxide, exhaled moisture, and sweaty and hot environment inside the mask. It also improves the clarity of speech of a person with a facemask and assures comfortable, hygienic breathing to protect the wearer from exposure to airborne contaminants.

The long-lasting nano-sanitizer innovation is a solution to the problems caused by the use of the general sanitizers, like dehydration of skin due to frequent use, and the nature of instantaneous antimicrobial action of common sanitizers without protective role. This innovative sanitizer technology assures comfortable and hygienic hand sanitization for a longer duration.

The agreement was signed by Dr. H. Purushotham, chairman & managing director, NRDC, and Shanti Ranjan Paul, director, Paulmech Infrastructure. online in the digital presence of, among others, Prof. Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary, Department of Science & Technology, and Dr. Samit Kumar Ray, director, SNBNCBS .

The use of these innovative products will help the users in overcoming the existing problems with masks and sanitizers available in the market. Sharma congratulated all the stakeholders for bringing the fruits of science and technology to benefit society..
