Andhra forest officials launch massive effort to reunite 4 tiger cubs with mother

The Andhra Pradesh Forest Department officials are making all efforts to reunite the four abandoned tiger cubs that were rescued from a house at Gummadapuram village in Nandyal district.

More than 100 additional CCTVs will be set up to track the movement of mother tigress. Sharing details, Sreenivasa Reddy, Field Director of Project Tiger, Nagarjunasagar Srisailam Tiger Reserve said that 40 special cameras have been installed at the spot where the cubs were found.

All the four cubs are females. They are healthy and aged between three and four months.

As per a forest official the tigress is roaming around two kilometres around the area. Trackers have reached the spot where the cubs were discovered and cordoned it off.

Efforts will be made to reach out to the tigress in the next 24 to 48 hours to help the cubs reunite with the mother. In case that doesn’t happen then a decision will have to be taken based on the norms of the Tiger Conservation Act.

According to Shanti Priya Pandey, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Wildlife, how the cubs reached the spot is still a bit of an enigma. “I think the tigress could have been chased by a pack of wild dogs. In a hurry it could have left the cubs.”

She added that adequate care is being taken to ensure that no human imprint is left on the quartet since the mother may reject the cubs if the original wild imprint is erased.
