Mumtaz bibi finally reunited with her three brothers from India after 75 years at Kartarpur in Pakistan.
A riveting story in the local media says that Mumtaz Bibi was born in a Sikh family in Pakistan. During partition, she was an infant and was found by a Muslim couple Muhammad Iqbal and his wife Allah Rakhi, The baby was lying nest to her mother’s dead body.
Allah Rakhi raised the infant as her own daughter, naming her Mumtaz Bibi. After Partition, Iqbal settled at Varika Tian village in Sheikhupura district of Pakistan's Punjab province. They never told Mumtaz that she was not their daughter.
According to media reports, two years ago, Muhammad Iqbal’s health started to deteriorate, and he decided to disclose the truth to Mumtaz, telling her that she was not his biological daughter, and that she was actually a Sikh.
Iqbal told Mumtaz that her biological family had settled in the village of Pidrana in the Patiala district of Indian Punjab, after they were forced to leave their native home in 1947. He also told her the name of her biological father.
It was then, Mumtaz Bibi’s son Shahbaz started searching for his mother’s family through social media. Mumtaz was able to connect her family in India. She came to know that she has three brothers – Sardar Gurumeet Singh, Sardar Narendra Singh and Sardar Amrinder Singh,
Both the family reached Kartar gurudwara Darbar Sahib and Mumtaz was able to meet her lost siblings after 75 years.
