Court extends Sisodia’s CBI custody for two more days

A city court extended the CBI custody of Manish Sisodia, former Delhi deputy chief minister, for two more days on Saturday.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, who is being investigated over alleged corruption charges linked to the Delhi liquor excise policy, had approached the court for bail.

Special judge MK Nagpal directed the CBI to produce the Aam Aadmi Party leader before the court again on Monday.

The CBI had sought another three days custody of Mr Sisodia after producing him before the court at the end of his three-day remand granted earlier.

In his bail request, Manish Sisodia said that keeping him in custody will “serve no fruitful purpose” as all the recoveries in the case have already been made.

Mr Sisodia’s lawyer argued that the “inefficiency of the agency” to complete the probe cannot be ground for remand, and he cannot be asked to incriminate himself.

Mr Sisodia faces corruption allegations in drawing up the liquor policy for the national capital which opened the retail sale of liquor to the private sector for the first time ever. The policy was withdrawn after Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena recommended a CBI inquiry into the issue.

The 51-year-old was arrested by the CBI on Sunday. He resigned from the Delhi cabinet in which he was heading as many as 18 departments on Tuesday.
