The GoC of Chinar Corps Lt. Gen. D.P. Pandey was in for a pleasant surprise when he visited Kunan Poshpora area this week. He received a special gift from North Kashmir, a ‘Made in Kunan Poshpora’ Tricolour flag.

Talking to the media during his visit for inaugurating a skill development centre in the region, Pandey revealed that residents of Kunan Poshpora had met him a few months back and sought his intervention to help in rehabilitation and employment generation of the area and its residents.

“Around 11 months ago, a delegation from Kunan Poshpora came to me with some demands, including sports infrastructure development and employment generation for local women. I kept my promise and visited the village after fulfilling those demands,” he said.

A project plan was drawn up focusing on empowerment of women and youth and implemented by the GoC within a few months of their visit. The area is remote and neglected in terms of development.

Besides, two stitching centres and a nursing centre were also set up.”

Young women from Kunan Poshpora under the Central Government’s scheme, Jan Shikshan Sansthan, stitched more than 14,000 national flags over the past few months. This was also mentioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his monthly address, Mann Ki Baat.
