Even as the Covid vaccination drive accelerates in the 18-45 age group, arrangements are being finalised for the opening up of additional Covid-19 care centres in specific panchayats ghars/specific educational institutes across several districts in Jammu and Kashmir.

With Covid-19 spreading in rural areas, J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had on Sunday told the administration to quickly set up small Covid care centres having requisite healthcare facilities and five beds, including one oxygen-supported, in every panchayat for immediate patient care.

Sinha, while addressing the people of Jammu and Kashmir through a video message, sought active participation from various stakeholders to complement government’s efforts in the fight against Covid pandemic.

"We can effectively tackle the challenge of this global pandemic through the active participation of all elected Panchayat representatives, Teachers, ASHAs, Anganwadi, ANM workers, Village Health Committees and Voluntary Organizations working in the rural areas," he said.

Acting quickly, several district administrations have established a five-bedded Covid care facility in the Panchayats.

"Village Health Committees must ensure the availability of medicare facilities and patient care management in these centres. Training for ASHA, Anganwadi and ANM workers should also be ensured," Sinha had ordered.

Currently, J&K is among the leaders in the country in vaccination of above 45 years age group, by vaccinating 62% of its eligible population compared to the national average of 32%. Within J&K, four districts have so far achieved 90% coverage in this age group.

It is further expected that the remaining population in the 45+ age category will be covered within a few days.

"Situation is improving gradually. With collaborative efforts, I do believe we shall overcome this health crisis and take Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory to a new height of progress and prosperity," Sinha hoped.
