Come March 19, a riot of colours and fragrance will greet the throng of visitors to Asia largest tulip garden in Srinagar as that is the day it will be thrown open for people.

Spread over 30 hectares, this garden is located on the bank of Dal Lake at the foothills of the Zabarwan range.

Sharing details about the garden, Inam-ul-Rehman, its charge told the media that the tulips have started blooming and its carpet is sure to fascinate the visitors. He shared that this year there are 16 lakh tulips of 60 varieties. This includes four new ones.

The hard work that has gone into making this huge garden colourful and blooming is evident as more than 100 gardeners have toiled in it for more than a month. Mohammad Yousuf, the head gardener revealed that the garden has varied types of tulips, from early to mid to late and all these have been planted accordingly. This he said will ensure that the garden remains open throughout the month and it sports a different look every time visitors come there.

In 2007 this garden was inaugurated by the then Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and in 2020 a record 3.60 lakh tourists visited the garden.
