Tamil Nadu college bags award for Covid-19 app

VeeTrace, a mobile application developed by the students of the Sona College of Technology, Tamil Nadu, has bagged the 'Utkrisht Sansthan' Vishwakarma award for tracking Covid-19 affected individuals within 10 metres, 100 metres and one km distance, respectively.

The award, given by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), is designed to motivate, recognize and honor the AICTE-approved institutions that raise their performance in the specific domain leading to significant contribution for the growth and development of the society.

Education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank virtually conferred the award, recently. The app was developed by the students of the Sona College of Technology, Tamil Nadu with the thought to help contact tracing of Covid-19 cases in four districts of the state.

To download the app, VeeTrace, one only needs to share their name and contact number. When a higher number of people use it, the app makes it easy to prevent community spread.

“The teams at Sona College of Technology have developed products in the past that could solve some of the problems posed by the pandemic situation. For instance, they developed bio chambers, automatic hand sanitizers and masks, among other things,” the press release issued by the university said.
