A 27-year-old woman died in Mumbai after accidentally consuming Maggi noodles in which rat poison got mixed by mistake, police said.

While cooking the Maggi noodles, the woman accidentally added a tomato that had earlier been laced with poison to kill rats that had become a nuisance in her home.

The tragic incident occurred in the Malad area of Mumbai's Malad.

Police said that the woman, identified as Rekha Nishad, had laced tomatoes with poison to kill rats in the house on July 21. The next day as she was cooking while watching TV, she appears to have completely forgotten about the rat poison.

"While watching TV, she accidentally added the tomato to her food," said Musa Devarshi, Sub Inspector of Malvani.

The woman started vomiting after eating the Maggi noodles so her husband and brother-in-law rushed her to the nearest hospital.

However, she died on Wednesday while undergoing treatment.
