Young Kenyan woman caught smuggling Cocaine worth Rs 13 crore at Delhi airport

A 25-year-old Kenyan woman was caught at the Delhi airport for smuggling Rs 13 crore worth cocaine dissolved in whiskey bottles, a senior Customs official confirmed.

The woman arrived on a flight from Nairobi on Thursday and when her bag was scanned, Customs officials found two unsealed bottles of whisky. A closer look revealed that the texture and colour of the liquor was unusual.

An analysis of the contents revealed that the liquid had 22 to 28 per cent cocaine dissolved in it. Further examination showed the bottles contained 900 grams of cocaine worth approximately Rs 13 crore in the illicit market, officials said.

The woman told officials that the bottles were given to her by a handler at Nairobi airport who instructed her to hand them over to a contact person in Delhi. Initial questioning shows that she has been used as a courier, but investigations are on to unravel the wider drug smuggling syndicate involved in the operation.

Customs officials said the Kenyan was supposed to stay in west Delhi during her visit to India.

She was arrested under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act and produced at a local court, which sent her to 14 days of judicial custody.
