The Indian government continues to take a number of steps to strengthen the role of women within the security setup in general and the armed forces in particular. In turn, women in uniform are becoming role models for the aspirational gen-next in the country.
On Saturday, women cadets from the Officers Training Academy (OTA) in Chennai went through the morning drills as they get ready to be commissioned.
“As the day rises from dark, these women with swords and hearts of steel, perfect themselves for the ‘grand journey’ of protecting motherland,” tweeted the Ministry of Defence along with a video.
Women have been serving with pride in Indian Military Nursing Service for over 100 years now. More than 2,500 women officers have passed out since the Indian Army commenced commissioning women officers in 1992.
