Virat Kohli became the leading run-scorer in the history of T20 World Cup cricket on Wednesday with his performance in India’s Super 12 match against Bangladesh at the Adelaide Oval on Wednesday.
Kohli reached the milestone as unbeaten 44-ball 64 against Bangladesh today enabled him to surpass former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene’s record tally of 1016 runs.
Kohli, the leading run-scorer in T20Is, has the most fifties in T20 World Cups. He got to the landmark in 23 innings and currently averages close to 90 in T20 World Cups.
He scored 185 runs in the T20 World Cup in 2012 and was the competition’s top-scorer in 2014 and the second highest run-getter in 2016. Virat Kohli was the Player of the Tournament in 2014 and 2016.
Kohli has regained top form in the 2022 T20 World Cup, with two fifties, which include a match-winning 82 against Pakistan in Melbourne.
