A woman Superintendent of Police (SP) in Uttar Pradesh disguised herself and pretended she was the victim of an armed robbery on a highway to test the response time of the local police to an emergency call.
A video of the incident shows Charu Nigam, an IPS officer posted as SP of Auraiya, dressed in a salwar kameez like any other ordinary woman. She also keeps her face hidden from her subordinates with sunglasses and a mask. The clip also shows the officer riding pillion on a bike, looking for the right spot to carry out the “test.”
She dialled 112, the control room number for such SOS calls from the highway. The emergency line promises help within five minutes, no matter where you are.
“Hello, this is Sarita Chauhan. I was robbed by two armed men,” she said in a high-pitched voice.
Videos and images shared by the Auraiya police on Twitter show the officer talking on the phone on a lonely road.
Three policemen responded to her distress call and promptly landed on spot, apparently coming through the test with flying colours.
The police officials can be seen noting the woman’s complaint and making enquiries quite unaware that she is their boss.
