Man injured as cop’s pistol fires accidentally in shop at Amritsar

A man working at a mobile shop at Amritsar in Punjab was seriously injured as a policeman’s pistol got accidentally fired on Wednesday.

CCTV footage from inside the shop showed the policeman taking a pistol out of his pocket and putting it on the counter. However, the gun suddenly fired and the victim behind the counter fell down. Other people , including the policeman, are then seen rushing to the victim.

The policeman has been suspended from the force.

“Necessary action will be taken as per the statements of the eyewitnesses and the family. The condition of the injured person is serious,” said Varinder Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) North, Amritsar.
