In a tragic turn of events, a two-year-old boy drowned in the swimming pool of a bungalow at the  Lonavala holiday resort in Maharashtra, where his family was celebrating  his birthday, police said on Tuesday.

The Nashik-based family had rented the bungalow to celebrate the child's second birthday the next day, an official from Lonavala police station said.

The parents and other family members were busy on the first floor of the bungalow, when the toddler fell into the swimming pool outside on July 13.

The family members suddenly realised that the child was missing and after a desperate search, they found him in the swimming pool, the official said.

A case of accidental death has been registered at the local police station.
