Three killed in stampede at Rajasthan temple

<p>
Three people were killed and two injured in a stampede at Khatu Shyam Ji temple at Sikar in Rajasthan on Monday morning.</p>
<p>
The two injured persons have been shifted to a hospital in Jaipur for treatment.</p>
<p>
The stampede took place at around 5 am in the morning at the entrance of the temple.</p>
<p>
The devotees had arrived on the 11th day of the lunar calendar, considered auspicious for darshan of Khatu Shyam Ji who is believed to be an incarnation of Lord Krishna.</p>
<p>
According to the police, a large crowd had gathered outside the temple and people tried to rush in when the gates were opened. A woman reportedly fainted and fell, causing others to trip over and in the stampede that followed three women were trampled to death while two were seriously injured.</p>
<p>
A team of police personnel immediately rushed to the temple to control the crowd and bring the situation under control.</p>
<p>
Police SP of Sikar, Kunwar Rashtradeep, said the situation is under control and the crowd is being regulated.</p>
<p>
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his condolences to the families of the victims.</p>
<p>
"Saddened by the loss of lives due to a stampede at the Khatu Shyamji Temple complex in Sikar, Rajasthan. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. I pray that those who are injured recover at the earliest," the PM Modi tweeted.</p>
